n them. The network portion of the IP address for each local area network must be unique; you cannot use the same network address for your system's Ethernet and Network Load Balancing connections. To get IP addresses for the Network Load Balancing Software and the devices you are associating with it, follow these steps: 1. Determine which real devices you are associating with the Network Load Balancing Software. 2. Obtain an IP address for the Network Load Balancing Software. This address must be unique. 3. Obtain IP addresses for the real (Ethernet) devices if they have not already been assigned. 4. If necessary, configure the Ethernet devices with `ifconfig`. For information on this command, see its man page, `ifconfig``(1M)` . * * * | **Note:** For specifics, see the sections on planning and setting up a network in the latest version of _IRIX Admin: Networking and Mail_. ---|--- * * * ## Preparing for Network Load Balancing Software Configuration

# Network Setup
Source: http://tech-pubs.net/wiki/index.php/Network_Setup
IRIX unlike modern Linux distros, Windows and macOS necessitates some level of manual configuration.
Some of the tasks here can be accomplished via the GUI, but it is valuable to understand the networking stack in IRIX.

Follow these steps: 1. Determine the number of networks to which your system will be connected after the Network Load Balancing Software is installed. 2. If the system is to have more than one network connection, decide which will be the **primary network**. The primary network interface should be the one where all or most of the system's network services or clients reside. * * *

IRIX NetWorker Silo Module --- [Prev](http://techpubs.jurassic.nl/library/manuals/3000/007-3638-002/sgi_html/index.html) | | [Next](http://techpubs.jurassic.nl/library/manuals/3000/007-3638-002/sgi_html/ix01.html) * * * ## IRIX NetWorker Silo Module Please read this guide before installing silo support for IRIX NetWorker Power Edition. The silo module is delivered as part of IRIX NetWorker 4.2.9-B. Silo support is included in the `networker4.sw.server` product image. To run the silo module, you need to purchase a silo license, insert the FLEXlm license lines into `/var/flexlm/license.dat`, and activate the license using **nsrcap -v** (see the _IRIX NetWorker Installation Guide_ for instructions). ## Silo Support Overview
elease 5.0.1 or later, install _netls_eoe.sw.netls_eoe_ if it isn't already installed.
3. If the system is running IRIX Release 5.0 or earlier, install _nck.sw.nck_ if it isn't already installed.
4. If you are using a standalone system (one not connected to a network at all), some special setup is required. On IRIX Release 5.0.1 or later, give these commands:
**/etc/chkconfig network on**
**echo "ip:localhost" > /var/ncs/glb_site.txt**
---
On IRIX Release 5.0 or earlier, give these commands:
**/etc/chkconfig network on**
**echo "ip:localhost" > /usr/ncs/glb_site.txt**
---
5. Set the llb and glb `chkconfig`(1M) flags to "on":
**/etc/chkconfig llb on**
**/etc/chkconfig glb on**
---
s covered more thoroughly in the IRIX networking documentation.
To set the network address, follow these steps:
1. Place the network address in `/etc/hosts` on the same line as the system name.
2. If you use the network information service (NIS), place the name of your domain in the file `/var/yp/ypdomain`, if it is installed.
3. Use the `nvram`(1M) command to set the variable _netaddr_ to the IP number of the machine. For example:
**nvram netaddr 192.13.52.4**
---
#### Setting the Default Printer
The `lpadmin`(1M) command sets the default printer. This command sets the default printer to laser:
**lpadmin -dlaser**
---
Note that the printer laser must already exist and be configured. For complete information on setting up printers, see the IRIX print services documentation.
#### Setting the Time Zone
