Hello people,
I bought a used Octane2 sometime around 2005/06, all original then. I performed two upgrades between then and 2010: 1. swap the ram for 4x512MB, and 2. replace the V6 with the V8 graphics configuration.
Everything worked flawlessly until I put it to sleep in the attic, around 2016.
Today I came around to switching it on once again and noticed the following:
-the power supply made abuzz sound and the machine did not start up. Apparently this once needs a replacement.
\- I went to my fathers home and picked a black handlebar psu from there - replaced it - and connected the 13w3-vga cable to my Dell 19 inch monitor.
\- connected a ps/2 keyboard, no mouse (I don't have ps/2 mice anymore)

\- This was almost a success , the machine came up good,, the screen showed the Octane2 boot monitor with the black initialization box, some complaints about missing ethernet cable etc. but then the screen turned dark.
I'd love to have some guidance or pointers regarding the following:
\- is it safe to run the late model Octane with the old psu at all ? I am asking because I noticed warm air coming out of the ventialtion compartment, and I cannot remember quite how it used to be before
\- does anyone have an idea why the screen blacked out ?
Best Greetings to all,
